The Perfect Moment

by Leo Tyler

I was waiting

I thought

for the perfect moment

Not realizing you

were

Looking for the perfect

Sunset

riding and chasing

them all

And here at your

feet I fall

Perfect you are

For me not blind to

Your human imperfection But

In awe of your

Divine illumination

Years passed with no open door

You’re the moment

I’ve waited for

Reflection

Reflecting on the poem "The Perfect Moment," here are some questions to ponder:

•       Perception vs. Reality: How does the author’s perception of waiting for the perfect moment evolve throughout the poem? What does this reveal about their understanding of time and significance?

•       Discovery and Revelation: What does the poem suggest about the discovery of love and meaningful connections? How does the realization that someone else has been seeking beauty and meaning parallel or contrast with the author’s own journey?

•       Imperfection and Illumination: Explore the contrast between human imperfection and divine illumination in the context of the poem. How does the author reconcile these qualities in their beloved? What might this suggest about their view of love and acceptance?

•       Time and Waiting: How does the concept of time play a role in the poem's narrative? Consider the passage "Years passed with no open door." What emotions or insights does this evoke about patience, longing, and eventual fulfillment?

•       Personal Journey: In what ways does the author’s journey reflect a universal quest for connection and understanding? How might readers relate to or learn from the author’s experiences and revelations?

Biblical Texts

The poem evokes themes that resonate with several biblical texts and principles:

•       Ecclesiastes 3:1: "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." This verse reminds us that life unfolds according to God's timing, not ours. The author’s realization of waiting for the perfect moment aligns with the idea that God's timing is perfect and often reveals itself unexpectedly.

•       Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Even in the waiting and the passing of years with no apparent open door, there is trust that God is working behind the scenes, orchestrating events for our ultimate good.

•       2 Corinthians 12:9: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." The acknowledgment of human imperfection and divine illumination in the poem reflects a deep understanding of God's grace and the beauty found in embracing both aspects of ourselves and others.

•       Psalm 27:14: "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." The author’s journey of waiting and eventually finding the moment they've longed for resonates with the biblical call to trust in God's timing and steadfastness.

These biblical texts highlight the themes of waiting, trust, divine timing, and the recognition of God's perfection amidst human imperfection—all of which are echoed in the sentiments of "The Perfect Moment."

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

In the stillness of waiting, I sought the perfect moment, unaware of Your gentle presence beside me all along. I have been chasing sunsets and searched in longing, while you were painting the skies with Your glory. Now, at Your feet, I humbly surrender. You are perfect, not blind to my imperfections but filled with divine illumination that lights my path. Through years of uncertainty, You have kept me, shaping my journey toward this sacred moment. Thank You, Lord, for revealing Your perfect love amidst my longing. Help me embrace Your timing, knowing that Your plans unfold in beauty and grace. May Your presence continue to guide me, as I walk in awe of Your light and love.

In Your holy name I pray,
Amen.
