A Love Like Yours

by Leo Tyler

My heart longed

for a love like yours

A lifetime search

Experiences of woundedness

and disappointments

It led me to

you

Into your arms

I fall

caressed by your

heart

The warmth did

heal

My pain

faded

A love like yours

never to afford

It’s priceless

and it’s mine

Not to own

just to receive

Day by day

Moment by moment

A love like yours

Biblical Texts

This poem evokes themes that resonate deeply with Biblical texts and verses about love, healing, and grace. Here are a few that come to mind:

•       Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." This verse reflects the healing and comfort that come from encountering a love that brings solace and renewal, much like the warmth that heals and fades pain in your poem.

•       1 Corinthians 13:4-7: Known as the "Love Chapter," these verses describe love as patient, kind, not envious or boastful, not proud or self-seeking, and always persevering. The author’s description of "a love like yours" aligns with this portrayal of love as priceless, not possessive, but received with gratitude and cherished day by day.

•       Song of Solomon 8:6-7: "Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it." This poetic passage captures the intensity and enduring nature of love, which, once found, becomes an irreplaceable and unquenchable flame in your life.

•       Romans 8:38-39: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." This verse underscores the security and steadfastness of a love that cannot be severed or diminished, echoing the sentiment of a love that is received and cherished, day by day, moment by moment.

These Biblical texts enrich the imagery and themes of this poem, offering timeless reflections on love's healing power, its enduring nature, and its transformative impact on the human heart.

Prayer

Gracious Father,

My heart has yearned for a love like yours, A journey marked by searching and longing, Amidst the wounds and disappointments of life.

You have led me to this place, to this love, Into arms that embrace with a healing touch, Where pain finds solace and fades away.

Your love, Lord, is beyond price, A gift bestowed, not to be earned or owned, But humbly received with gratitude.

Day by day, moment by moment, May I cherish this love, May it shape me and sustain me, As I walk in your grace.

In the quiet of each day, In the depth of each moment, Let me feel the presence of your love, Guiding, comforting, and renewing.

A love like yours, Lord, Is a beacon of hope and light, Forever mine to receive, Forever grateful, forever blessed.

Amen.
