Canvas
by Leo Tyler
You’re my canvas
my backdrop
The object of my masterpiece
You’re the words to the
greatest poem ever written
All I want to do is think about you—
write about you
The expression of life so beautiful—
that’s you
Reflection
How does the metaphor of the beloved as a canvas and backdrop resonate with your understanding of love and admiration?
In what ways does this expression capture the idea that love can inspire creativity and artistry?
Can you relate to the feeling of wanting to constantly think about and write about someone you deeply care about? What emotions and experiences does this bring to mind?
What does it mean to consider someone as the "expression of life so beautiful"? How does this relate to your own experiences of love and admiration for someone?
Reflect on a person in your life who has inspired you in a similar way. How would you express your feelings and admiration for them using creative metaphors and language?
Biblical Texts
The sentiment expressed in these lines resonates with the concept of divine love and the profound connection between God and humanity found in various biblical scriptures. It reflects the idea of God as the ultimate Creator, the Artist who paints the masterpiece of our lives and the Author of the greatest poem ever written.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV): "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." These lines emphasize that humans are created in the image of God, reflecting the idea that we are a part of God's divine masterpiece.
Psalm 139:14 (NIV): "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." This verse celebrates the wonder of God's creation and the idea that each person is uniquely crafted by the Divine.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV): "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." This passage highlights the idea that believers are God's handiwork, similar to a masterpiece created by an artist, with a purpose in life.
Psalm 45:1 (NIV): "My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer." This verse connects the act of writing and poetry to a divine purpose, much like the idea of writing about the object of one's affection.
Prayer
Heavenly Creator,
You are the canvas upon which our lives are painted,
The backdrop against which our stories unfold,
The masterpiece of existence, both young and old.
You're the words to the greatest poem ever written,
Each line, each verse, with love and grace you've given.
In the tapestry of life, you're the threads that weave,
In every chapter of our journey, it's your love we receive.
The expression of life, so beautiful and divine,
In your presence, we find purpose and a love that shines.
Guide us to see your hand in all we do and say,
As we write the chapters of our lives, day by day.
With gratitude and love, we turn our hearts to you,
For in your presence, Lord, we find life's purpose true.
May our lives be a reflection of your grace and light,
As we seek to honor you, our God, day and night.
Amen.
